On this page, you'll see our full statement of faith. It lays out the central beliefs of our faith.
Below it you'll also find how Country Bible Church relates to historic and contemporary Christianity.
Our Statement of Faith
1.) The Bible
We believe the Holy Scriptures consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally inspired Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, God-breathed and infallible.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21; John 8:31-32; 1 Thessalonians 2:13
2.) God is Triune
We believe that there is one true God, the Creator and Ruler of the universe, eternally existing in three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; that each person is co-equal in nature, power, and glory, having the same attributes and perfections.
Genesis 1:1, 26; Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Revelation 4:11; 1 Corinthians 8:4-6; 1 Timothy 1:17
3.) God the Father
We believe that God the Father is the creator of heaven and earth. He rules over all things; His plans and purposes cannot be thwarted. He is faithful to every promise, works all things together for good to those who love Him, and in His unfathomable grace gave His Son Jesus Christ for mankind’s redemption.
Genesis 1:1; Psalm 33:6; 90:2; Proverbs 19:21; Ephesians 1:11; Daniel 4:35; Romans 11:33-36; Lamentations 3:22-23; Romans 8:28; Acts 4:28; John 3:16; 1 Peter 1:3
4.) God the Son
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious sacrifice, and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate.
John 1:1-2, 14; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24; 1 Peter 2:24; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Acts 1:9-10; Hebrews 7:25; 9:24; Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2
5.) God the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity; that He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment; that He regenerates, sanctifies, and empowers all who believe in Jesus Christ,and that He is the supernatural agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption.
John 14:16, 17, 26; John 16:8-14; Rom. 8:9, Ephesians 1:13-14
6.) Humanity
We believe that God created humanity – male and female – in His own image and likeness, but that through Adam's sin the race fell from its original good state, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and that man is totally depraved, and of himself is utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.
Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12
7.) Salvation
We believe that salvation from sin and God’s wrath is impossible for man to earn or merit, but is the free gift of God brought to man by His sovereign grace and received through repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins and reconciliation with God. We further believe that those who are truly redeemed are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever. We don’t hold to “once saved, always saved,” rather, we believe in “if saved, always saved.”
Ephesians 2:8-10; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 2:13; 1 Peter 1:18-19; John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:5
8.) The Church
We believe that Jesus is the head of the Church, and that the church is made up of all redeemed persons from every tribe, language, people, and nation. We believe this invisible body exists locally, and imperfectly, as the visible church. We believe that the only Scriptural officers of the local church are Elders and Deacons, whose qualifications, claims, and duties are defined in the Holy Scriptures.
Colossians 1:18; Matthew 16:18; 18:15-18; 1 Timothy 3:1-15; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4
9.) The Ordinances
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church, baptism and the Lord's Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of the believer in water into the name of the triune God. We believe that the Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 6:3-5; I Corinthians 11:23-26
10.) The Last Things
We believe that God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end; that according to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth; the dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. We believe that the unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment, and the righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.
Isaiah 2:4; Matthew 16:27; 24:36; 25:31-46; Luke 16:19-26; John 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 17:31; Romans 14:10; 1 Corinthians 4:5; 15:24-28,35-58; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Timothy 6:14; 2 Timothy 4:1; Revelation 20:4-6, 11-15
Our place in historic and contemporary Christianity
We are a non-denominational church. We are self-governing. We are an independent church. Yet, we are not a standalone church. We are heavily dependent on the contributions of believers throughout church history, and we delight to be connected with the contemporary body of Christ. Below are historic and contemporary professions of faith that we affirm.
Historic:
The Apostles Creed (3rd to 5th century AD)
I believe in God the Father Almighty maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary,
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father;
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit;
one holy Christian Church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Nicene Creed (325 AD)
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty;
Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God,
Begotten of the Father before all worlds;
God of God, Light of Light,
Very God of Very God,
Begotten, not made,
Being of one substance with the Father;
By whom all things were made;
Who, for us men and for our salvation,
Came down from heaven,
And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary,
And was made man;
And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered and was buried;
And the third day he rose again,
According to the Scriptures;
And ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of the Father;
And he shall come again, with glory,
To judge both the quick and the dead;
Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And we believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life;
Who proceedeth from the Father [and the Son];
Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified;
Who spoke by the prophets.
And we believe in one holy catholic [i.e. universal] and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins [i.e. baptism is a sign and seal of God's promise to forgive the
sins of those who trust in Christ];
And we look for the resurrection of the dead,
And the life of the world to come. Amen.
